You seem so out of context.

"..You seem so out of context in this gaudy apartment complex
A stranger with your door key explaining that I am just visiting
And I am finally seeing
Why I was the one worth leaving.."

This Autumn

Trees on fire, lighting up the sky with shades of yellow, orange and brown. The world seems to have golden glow, the crispy air carry the comfortable smell of something burning far away; grass on fire, being prepared for next spring.

I love this time of year. I love the freshness of the air, I love the cold and crispy feel to my skin, I love how it's not too cold yet.

I love walking through carpets made of fallen leaves, I love how they soar through the air as I kick them up from the curve. I love kicking the leaves.

I love the fact that we have so many seasons, I love them all; The white winter, The spring bringing back the sun and warmth and colors, The hot or/and rainy summer with my favorite smell of new cut grass, and the beautiful autumn with all the beautiful colors of fire and passion and love.

It makes me want to fall in love. It makes me want to write poems and metaphors about how you remind me of this season. It makes me want to burn you a mix tape containing my favorite music at the moment. When you take the time to burn somebody a mix tape, then you are really into that person. I want that.

The Morning Benders - Wet Cement

Arctic Monkeys - 505

Band of Horses - The Funeral

Broken Bells - The High Road

Broken Bells - Trap Doors

Broken Bells - Mongrel Heart

Broken Bells - The Mall and Misery

Ok, so The WHOLE frickin' Broken Bells album is FANTASTIC! I was about to put up the "vaporize" tune, but I would not have stopped until I had shared the entire album.. so lets stop right here and you go buy the album or something. Every single song is this great. Fun fact: Do you recognize the vocalists voice? It is James Mercer, from The Shins. Broken Bells is a project started by him and the producer Danger Mouse, who formed Gnarls Barkley together with Cee-Lo Green.

And since I'm mentioning Cee-Lo AND Band Of Horses:

Cee-Lo Green - No One's Gonna Love You (Band Of Horses Cover)

Band Of Horses - No one's Gonna Love you (The original song)
"You are the ever living ghost of what once was" <3

Which one do you prefer? I like them both!

Florence + The Machine - The Dog Days Are Over

Florence + The Machine - Cosmic Love

Freelance Whales - Ghosting

I was supposed to share the song "Starring" by the Freelance Whales, but I could not find any video with good sound. I want to make sure you check it out though, so here goes a random homemade video by somebody I don't know..

MGMT - 4th Dimensional Transition

 *     *     *

One of the few R'n'b tracks I like lately is this one by Nicki Minaj. You may recognize the sample from Annie Lennox's "No More I Love You's".
I also love this Asian inspired video.

Nicki Minaj - Your Love

Kanye West - Runaway

And with this I say goodbye to this wonderful autumn and welcome the chilly winter: It's snowing outside! :)

I'll be the fox by the road, I am.

My best friend Audrey sent me this wonderful little surprise yesterday, exclaiming that I would love it. I did.
I just became aware that the lyrics is about a fox who gets hit by a car and then the fur is used to make a coat. I cried a little.

Everything Everything - Tin (The Manhole)

Of Moons, Birds and Monsters

What a truly amazing song. Although the album Oracular Spectacular has been out for quite a while now, this is one of the last songs that stuck with me. And as I so often find, music that grows on me stick for the longest of time.

Why'd you cut holes in the face of the moon base?
Don't you know about the temperature change
In the cold black shadow?
Are you mad at your walls
Or hoping that an unknown force can repair things for you?
Pardon all the time that you've thrown into your pale grey garden?
If the ship will never come you've got to move along

Even a bird would want a taste of dirt from abyssal dark
The prick of a feather could make a kingdom burn and the bloodshed start
The falling apart
Made me a shadow in the shape of wonder
The waves of black
If she's going under I can hold my breath till the sky comes back
Or drown like a rat, rat, rat
He's a rat!

To catch a monster
We make a movie
Set the tempo
And cut and cut its brains out
It will inspire on the burning pyre
Half the distance
Half the motion
Communication
It's easy as the ocean

The Shins will change your life.

Yes, I'm referring to the movie "Garden State", where the lovely and dorky Natalie Portman practically pushes her headphones on Zach Braff.
I love that scene, where they first meet. I love how they meet. In general, I love first meetings where people talk about great music.
I love The Shins, although I had not been listening to their music for long before I found this very quote by Natalie Portman, which then led me to watch the movie.
Such a great movie, with such a great soundtrack!

When I first started to watch it, my first reaction was getting a wee bit sceptical, since Zach Braff is in it (I did not know he had the lead role, I didn't know anything besides that Natalie Portman was in it - and I love her). Not that he is a bad actor or anything, I have only seen him in "Scrubs", and I guess I am a bit judgmental when it comes to actors who play in comedy series.. But he fits this part, and played it well. Later on I found out that he actually is the director and writer, so there goes my judgment! Amazing work, he absolutely got my new found respect!
And Natalie.. oh Natalie. She's one of my favorite actors, but after seeing this, I totally developed a femme-crush.

I wont spoil the whole plot, but I can say that this is a movie about about being numb to life and then start living. One of my favorite subjects.
SEE IT, and on that note, I'll leave you with a few of the great songs from the soundtrack.

Coldplay - Don't Panic

Frou Frou - Let Go

The Shins - Caring is Creepy

The Shins - New Slang

This next song by Postal Service did not feature on the soundtrack, although it was on the trailer.  The cover version, by Iron & Wine, is to be found on the soundtrack, but I prefer the original.

Postal Service - Such Great Heights

Oh, and since we're on the subject of The Shins, I'll share one of my absolute favorite songs of all time: Sleeping Lessons

How can you sleep when La Blogotheque exist??

Several weeks ago I found myself surfing aimlessly online, as I often end up doing when I have trouble falling asleep. This particular night, I finally found something new and exiting, something that was worth the time I waste trying to fall asleep. Something that makes me shiver and become emotional because of its beauty, realness and originality. It makes me sing, dance, laugh and cry at the same time. It makes me want to be there and experience it first hand.

This incredible site is La Blogotheque Take-Away Shows:
" The Take away shows are la Blogotheque’s first video podcasts.
Every week, we invite an artist or a band to play in the streets, in a bar, a park, or even in a flat or in an elevator, and we film the whole session. Of course, what makes the beauty of it is all the little incidents, hesitations, and crazy stuff happening unexpectedly. Besides, we do not edit the videos so they look perfectly flawless, instead we keep the raw sound of the surroundings. Our goal is to try and capture instants, film the music just like it happens, without preparation, without tricks. Spontaneity is the keyword. "

Here are my favorites so far:

Grizzly Bear - Shift

Fleet Foxes - White Winter Hymnal

Phoenix - 1901
I feel a kind of regret for not have been there (as much regret I can feel about something I did not know about at the time), I would go absolutely nuts if I was one of the people passing by! Imagine experiencing Phoenix live, on the streets! Gaah!

Lykke Li & El Perro Del Mar - Dance Dance Dance

Charades - Grito Tu Nombre

Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago

Noah and The Whale - Rocks and Daggers/Mary
Is it just me or isn't it just perfect when that drunken old man turns up?

Mujeres - Wanna Boom/Walk The Line/Oh My!
This is not my type of music (and I can't make out the words), but it is one of the best videos, and these guys are just way too cool with their accent and surfing style!

Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
Aah! A magazine-player! I absolutely love it!

Fish Tank

Last night, like many other nights, I had trouble falling asleep.
At 3 AM, I found myself watching the movie Fish Tank, again.

Few movies captures the feeling of being young and bored in the hot summer, doing stupid things and the need for attention like this movie does. And the anger one can only feel as a teenager at war with.. life.
As a critic said: "Brilliantly and sensitively buzzes with life."

As I watch it, I AM a teenager again, bored and just waiting for life to happen. And then it does.

It makes me think of that summer I spent with my best friend M, when we used to listen to 2pac's "R U still down" double CD and the soundtrack for the movie Gridlock'd. We used to take long walks at night, we tried out tagging with some old spray cans we had found in my parents garage, and we tried to smoke cigarettes for the first time. The summer of experimenting and waiting for something exiting to happen.

If you haven't seen the movie yet, you should.

Pieces of what..?

We're back in this familiar place. We've been here so many times before. It's getting old; the whole saga of breaking up but not letting go.

I love and hate you. I adore you, but in fact, I despise you even more. We're past the point of love, we've been so for a long time.

But when we find our self here again, at this dark place where we hurt each other and are ready to finally say goodbye, that's when I turn around and are willing to forgive and forget.

But I can't forgive.
And I definitely cannot forget.

All I am doing is buying time. For what? I act as if I am ready to pick up the scraps that are left, ready to fix it, build it up again, only to find out that the scraps are way too broken. They can never be fixed.

It's like a puzzle with broken pieces, and the pieces will never fit each other again, no matter how hard we try. The final picture that is supposed to be us have holes in it. It's not a pretty sight.

And here I am, again, too coward to just let go and move on.
So I desperately try to gather the scraps from the floor and pick up the pieces.

But pieces of what..?

MGMT - Pieces of what

" ..And leaving me whole.. "

Funny how I rediscovered this beautiful song. I've always liked it, since the first time I heard it. But a couple of nights ago - it was as if I really heard it for the first time.

I love when that happens; when a song you've listened to several times suddenly turns out to be a hidden gem in your playlist.
It was there, all along, you where just not paying attention.

* * *

New obsession. Rediscovered, that is.

Augustana - Fire

" There you where in your black dress
Moving slow to the sadness
I could watch you dance for hours
I could take you by my side

Fire burning me up
Desire taking me so much higher

And leaving me whole. "
